Special Meals

British Airways offers the 20 special meals listed below.

SPML free format has been withdrawn and will not work. It was used for requirements not covered by the specific special meal codes. As such it covered an array of preferences which could not be guaranteed across the network and which added complexity and risk to our meal service.

The 20 special meals offered for dietary, religious and medical reasons are:

  • Asian Vegetarian Meal (AVML)
  • Lacto Vegetarian Meal (VLML)
  • Vegan Vegetarian Meal (VGML)
  • Hindu Meal (HNML)
  • Moslem Meal (MOML)
  • Kosher Meal (KSML)
  • Baby Meal (BBML)
  • Childrens Meal (CHML)
  • Seafood Meal (SFML)


and the following Medical Meals

  • Bland Meal (BLML)
  • Diabetic Meal (DBML)
  • Fresh Fruit Plate (FPML)
  • Gluten Free Meal (GFML)
  • High Fibre Meal (HFML)
  • Low Calorie Meal (LCML)
  • Low Cholesterol/Fat Meal(LFML)
  • Low Protein Meal (LPML)
  • Low Sodium Meal (LSML)
  • Low Purine Meal (uric acid) (PRML)
  • Non-Lactose Meal (NLML)

The codes shown, eg NLML, must be entered in the booking record when requesting the meal.

Special meals are available on most longhaul and on a very limited number of shorthaul services.

Notice for peanut allergy sufferers

British Airways does not include peanut products within aircraft meals or snacks in any cabin except on longhaul flights to/from the Far East where Peanut Satay may be included on the menu.

Please be aware that other passengers may bring their own peanut products on board.

Other types of nut may be included on the longhaul aircraft menu, for example as snacks in Club World and First.

Medical assistance

All British Airways aircraft carry a comprehensive medical kit which includes medication for the treatment of anaphylaxis. However, if you suffer from an allergy, you should carry your own medication as prescribed by your doctor and ensure it is readily available whilst on board.
