Infant seats and carrycots

For seating passengers travelling with infants, please follow the procedure below:

  • Enter SR INFT into the PNR - this will open the seatmap for all BA booked flights and show suitable seats for infants.
  • If the passengers require a baby bassinet or cot, choose the position marked C on the seat map for seating the accompanying adults.

The cot position will be equipped with a facility to fasten a carrycot or a Britax seat (description please see below), depending on the size and weight of the infant. The BSCT request is basically just an information for the crew that such cot or Britax seat will be required, but these items are handed out on a first-come-first-served basis. Therefore the SR element is not confirmed in advance. So please allocate the passengers suitable seats and advise them to ask for a cot or Britax seat on the airplane.

This option is only available on longhaul flights. On shorthaul flights the infant needs to sit on the passenger's lap.

Britax seats are:

  • ideal for ages from 6 months to 2 years, but can also be used from birth.
  • adjustable to a variety of positions from horizontal to vertical.
  • available for infants who weigh a maximum of 13kgs/29lbs.
  • available on all longhaul flights, except in First Class on Boeing 777/767 aircraft where only carrycots are available.

If your passengers prefer to use their own infant seat then this must meet the following standards:

  • a seat designed to be secured by means of a normal aircraft single lap strap and face the same direction as the passenger seat on which it rests
  • a purpose-designed children’s car seat with a 5-point restraining harness
  • the seat must not exceed the dimensions of the aircraft seat
  • The CAA does not permit rearward facing car seats.

As a further option - if the infant is between 6 and 23 months -passengers can book an individual seat for him/her by paying the child fare. This seat needs to be:

  • an approved infant seat (brought onboard by the accompanying adults) which fits on the aircraft seat or
  • one of our limited onboard Britax seats which are attached to the bassinet positions (as already mentionened, these seats are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis and passengers can ask for them on board the aircraft).

For aircraft take-off and landing and in times of turbulence, infants have to be seated on their parent’s lap using the infant seat belts we provide.
