Infants

An Infant is defined as a baby at least 48hrs but under 2 years old, not occupying a seat.

If the Infant reaches the age of two during the itinerary, the following procedure apply:

  • A separate seat is required for all sectors on and after that date flown on BA.

It is a legal requirement that all passengers aged two years of age or over, travelling on a UK airline, are provided with a separate seat.

  • Where this additional seat is required a separate booking should be made for the child with a booked BA seat and the two bookings should be related by TCP details. The child booking should not contain any fare or ticket details. The charge will remain the infant fare.

Exception:
As of 15APR06, on oneworld round the world fares (Oneworld explorer and Global Explorer, as well as the Circle Explorer fares) for an infant turning 2 during travel a child fare ticket must be purchased for the entire journey.

Advice for agents

Making a booking for an infant reaching the age of 2 during the journey

Reservations Procedure

  • On the sector(s) where a seat is required, create a separate child PNR for the infant
  • Cross refer it to the adult booking with an OSI TCP.
  • Enter the following Remark in exactly the format stated 'RX INFT TURNED TWO'
  • The child PNR should not contain any fare or ticket details. The fare charged will be the infant fare, and the ticket should be issued from the adult PNR that contains the infant details.

NB - If the remark 'INFT TURNED TWO' is not entered exactly as stated the booking will fail the Revenue Management automated process which cancels all bookings not containing ticket details.
