Free Cabin Baggage allowances
Customers travelling with British Airways, need to ensure that they are aware of the restrictions on their hand baggage, including:
Customers free size allowances:
The standard-sized bag is no more than 56cm x 45cm x 25cm (22ins x 18ins x 10ins), including the handle, pockets and wheels.
The cabin baggage must be able to be:
- fitted into the gauge available in the check-in area
- lifted into the aircraft's overhead lockers unaided (although cabin crew will assist customer if they have additional needs)

If you journey involves another airline, you should check the hand baggage allowance with that airline before travelling. If you are travelling with one of our oneworld alliance partners, the hand baggage allowance may differ and you should also check this before travelling.
*Following the recent introduction of revised security arrangements for all customers travelling into the USA, British Airways is clarifying its hand baggage policy for customers travelling into the USA, including those who are transferring onto flights to the USA. Customers travelling in our World Traveller and World Traveller Plus economy cabins to the USA from Heathrow and Gatwick will continue to take only ONE item of handluggage. Customers travelling in our Club World and First cabin to the USA from Heathrow, Gatwick and London City are now able to take the normal two bag hand luggage allowance. Passengers flying to the US who have brought more than one item of hand luggage can check the extra bags in for free. Customers travelling to destinations outside the United States or from the United States are not affected.
Allowance for franchise airlines
Franchise airlines operate certain routes on behalf of British Airways, and baggage allowances vary when you travel with these other airlines.
On some routes these airlines operate small aircraft types which have limited cabin storage space, so you cannot always expect the same allowances as on larger aircraft.
